About Wolk

Wolk is a hygiene-tech risk mitigation system providing critical automated data to assist in the safe running of a production set in the Post COVID-19 world. At its core, the technology provides real-time spatial distance data for the Health Safety Manager to be able to use accurate measurements of the relative distances between cast & crew members to support contact tracing and ensure physical distancing safety measures on set. This decision is left to the Health Safety Manager. Contact tracing and physical distancing solutions, however, are most effective when the majority of the people on set use OPEN SET Devices and where a community of people must collaborate together to reduce the spread of disease.

If a person on set does not wish to use an OPEN SET device, however, they have the ability to opt-out. Wolk Agreements with Film/TV Production explicitly prohibit using the data for any other purpose other than to monitor physical distancing and perform contact tracing. Health Safety Manager syncs contact tracing data from the device to the OPEN SET servers. This may be in response to positive infection test results or symptomatic behavior or may be done at some configured interval throughout each day. In either situation, the device sends the DeviceIDs and aggregate tallies of the amount of time spent with other DeviceIDs within each of the 7 previously specified bands to the OPEN Servers.

What is OPEN SET?

Wolk is a hygiene-tech risk mitigation system providing critical automated data to assist in the safe running of a production set in the Post COVID-19 world. At its core, the technology provides real-time spatial distance data for the Health Safety Manager to be able to use accurate measurements of the relative distances between cast & crew members to support contact tracing and ensure physical distancing safety measures on set.

How does OPEN SET work to keep people safe from contracting COVID-19?

Each member of the cast & crew who elect to opt-in to OPEN SET is given an OPEN SET Wearable Device with a unique Device ID. Each Device ID is associated with a corresponding cast or crew member’s identity through the duration of the production. Monitoring Physical Distancing. OPEN SET provides real-time alerts to the Health Safety Manager in the event someone comes too close to another person for an inappropriate amount of time. With customizable incident alerts triggered at specific distance thresholds (6-12ft by default), people on set and Health Safety Managers can improve physical distancing.

Wolk provides critical contact tracing information in the event someone tests positive for COVID and/or experiences a concerning exposure. In either event, data can be offloaded from this individual’s OPEN SET device only with their approval. This allows the Health Safety Manager to see proximity incidents that cast/crew members may have been involved. Health Safety Managers now possess an additional set of data and information to best respond to the exposure risk.

Information is collected and monitored

Wolk Devices use a special distance-measuring chip (Decawave 1000s or 3000s) to accurately compute relative distances between people (to within 10-30cm). OPEN SET Devices broadcast a 32-bit DeviceID over Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) that is transmitted in the same range as other Bluetooth devices (e.g. Bluetooth headphones). OPEN SET servers hold the mapping between these persistent DeviceIDs and a person’s identity. The mapping between these deviceIDs and names/roles are securely held on OPEN SET servers and are known only to Health Safety Managers.

Monitor Physical Distancing, Lower Infection Risk

When people on set get too close to one another (outside of their expected zone groupings), an incident is logged for Health Safety Managers to review. Users receive light feedback (vibration and/or push notification) via the UWB app/device to nudge them to lower infection risk. You may also configure incident alerts to match your production’s safety protocols. OPEN Set UWB Devices accurately tally time spent between pairs of people on set, in different spatial regions. Users control when their data leaves their device. They may send their data in regular intervals during production or in response to a request from the Health Safety Manager in the event of a positive test.
